Pillowfolks, the DW Community for Pillowfort Users

Pixel art has been the bulk of the art I've created in the past few years. It's easy, and for the most part, doesn't take too long. Not that other kinds of digital art take too a long amount of time – digital paintings tend to go pretty quickly if I have a plan – but I can finish pixel art pieces much quicker than anything else. That makes it particularly suitable as a medium when I'm busy with other things and can only take a "break" for an hour or so. I don't need much more than that to finish a piece.

It certainly hopes that pixel art feels more like painting than drawing. Instead of figuring out whether a line looks right or not, I'm focusing on shapes, light and shadow, and only going through and adding details at the very end of the process.

There's definitely still a lot for me to learn. I'd like to learn to use more colorful palettes, rather than having only 2-3 colors to transition between in a piece. I want to learn how to draw more varied things. While I do love drawings clouds, nebulae, and galaxies, I don't want them to be the only things I draw. I might even want to do some simple animations later down the line.

I know this focus on pixel art won't last forever. I'll eventually spend most of my time on some other medium. But when I do that, I hope I can apply what I've learned and make that medium just as enjoyable as this has been.
