Admin Post: Sticky: Welcome, travelers!
Feb. 5th, 2021 12:04 amMany of us are pining for Pillowfort in these rough days of deprivation, and perhaps we are wondering where our friends have gone. After several of us got to talking through back-channels, we decided to create a comm where we can find each other, chat, share content, etc.

I know a lot of people who don't visit DW very often because they think it isn't active. Well, it isn't Twitter or Tumblr, but there's plenty going on! So I thought I would compile a list of active comms that can help fandom peeps put some life into their DW reading lists and keep them apprised of upcoming events.

There's loads more out there! If anybody who sees this wants to put a word in for other active fandom comms on DW, just drop it in the comments! And feel free to link this post around to people you may know who're looking to build their activity on here.

Nonetheless, we are anticipating the possibility of heavy traffic from users eagerly returning to our platform the day of our re-launch and the days after. This may result in some site slowness and intermittent downtime. We’ll keep everyone updated on our social media channels regarding site stability. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Pillowfort Update 3/19/21
Mar. 19th, 2021 03:47 pmStaff has released updates today on the official PF Twitter and Tumblr accounts.
The main announcement is that Pillowfort will return in April and that the new security consultant has been hired.
They've also posted a Q&A about the status and future of the site. It answers questions about PF's downtime, the length of its time in beta, and its dependence on continued donations.

Pillowfort Update 2/23/21
Feb. 23rd, 2021 07:52 pmToday PF Staff announced that they're aiming to re-open the site by the end of March.
Here's an excerpt from the full announcement:
Here's an excerpt from the full announcement:
We are taking this time to do a thorough evaluation of the site and make improvements to the site’s security and permission checks from the top down. In spite of only a handful of issues being brought to our attention during our public launch last month, our developers want to conduct a thorough assessment of the entire site and develop a more in-depth suite of testing procedures. While it would not take long for our developers to fix the current known issues themselves, using the downtime to do systematic improvements will strengthen our platform in the long term and help prevent such issues from occurring again.

For anyone who has ever created any meta, the
While creators have often used multiple sites to host their works, one type of work has generally been left out of fans' efforts at archiving and preserving fanworks -- meta. In many cases, meta posts have not been copied anywhere else other than the location where they were first posted, leaving them hard to find and particularly vulnerable to loss.
So what if we can make a small dent in getting it saved? The March Meta Matters Challenge is focused on not just new meta, but making sure older meta gets a chance to be read and remain a part of fandom history. While new meta is also encouraged, the priority for Meta Matters is to make sure meta doesn't vanish with sites or personal accounts when those get closed or moved.
This is a month long event that kicks off on March 1. There are no signups and anyone can participate, whether here at Dreamwidth or elsewhere.
If you have any questions about MMM, look over how the challenge works, or visit our FAQ or leave a comment!
Also, if you enjoy meta? Check out the over 250 works archived in 2020.
Read-Only Version of PF is Up
Feb. 7th, 2021 05:22 pmAs of today, you can now visit individual posts, blogs, and communities on Pillowfort, so you have the opportunity to go and save anything that you've posted there.
Staff recommends that you clear your cache if you're still logged in. Instructions at the link.
If you don't, be advised: some of the interference usernames are still up, so if you're currently logged in, be careful. The homepage, followers page, mutuals page, communities page, block list, messages, notifications, settings, and other pages may be compromised. I recommended that you avoid clicking around at anything from the inside and instead simply look at the site externally, in a private/incognito tab.

Admin Post: Discussion Post: What are you yearning to Pillowpost?
Feb. 6th, 2021 01:38 pmFirst a bit of comm business:
The What do you want from this community poll is still open. I'll let it run for another day or so. We have over 25 members (already!) and less than half have voted, so if you've got opinions, feel free to make them known!
But so far, there's strong consensus in favor of:
So let's get started with those discussion posts! Our first topic: What do you wish you could post on Pillowfort?
What's the most recent thing that had you thinking, "I should make a post about that?" Or the thing that's overpoweringly making your fingers twitch because you keep thinking about it and have nowhere to put it?
Tell us in the comments here--or heck, make your own community post about it!
(Fun fact: on DW, you can track comments for a post or comment thread! If there's a convo you'd like to follow, look along the bottom of the post or comment for the 'Track this' icon--it might look like a little bell--and click it to turn tracking on or off. If you add tracking for a comment, then you'll get notified of any comments made in the thread from that comment on down. You can find all your notification settings in Account Settings>Notifications, where you can turn them off at any time.)
